The Research & Development Cell Team

The Research and Development Cell at Karve Institute of Social Service embodies a centre of expertise, with research as its primary focus. The team comprises academic and research professionals from diverse disciplines. The Cell is led by a nominated Director, a senior faculty member holding a PhD. Supporting the Director is a core team that includes three permanent non-teaching staff: a Research Coordinator, a Senior Research Assistant, and an Accountant.

To meet project-specific needs, the Cell employs qualified personnel on a project basis. These Research Assistants typically hold a Master’s degree in social work or social sciences and specialised research training. External resource personnel and consultants with expertise in specific domains are also engaged for defined tasks as required. Although the Cell follows a defined organisational structure, it prioritises teamwork over rigid hierarchies, fostering collaboration among core team members and project-based staff.

The Research and Development Cell has enabled its team members to achieve visibility and raise their work profile. Many former team members have progressed significantly in their careers—some pursuing doctoral studies in prestigious institutions in the UK and US, others contributing to research and documentation efforts in various Indian and international organisations. Additionally, several have ventured into diverse fields such as journalism, law, music, and academia.

Through its efforts, the Research and Development Cell at Karve Institute of Social Service has cultivated a cadre of young, dedicated social workers committed to advancing high-quality research and promoting Indigenous documentation.
