Maharshi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve

A.D. (18 April 1858 – 9 November 1962)

Was a social reformer in India in the field of women's welfare. Karve was a pioneer in promoting widows' education. The Government of India awarded him with the highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in 1958, the year of his 100th birthday

Shri. Bhaskarrao Karve

was started the Karve Institute of Social Service in 1963 in the city. Built on a 30-acre land donated by the state government, the institute was in commemoration of Bhaskar’s father, eminent social reformer late Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve.

The Karve institute offers a masters degree (MA) in social work with specialisation in family and child welfare; medical and psychiatric social work; human resource management, apart from urban and rural community development.

Hon. Dr. Vijayalaxmi Pandit 

A.D. (18 August 1900 – 1 December 1990)

was an Indian diplomat and politician, the sister of Jawaharlal Nehru, the aunt of Indira Gandhi and the grand-aunt of Rajiv Gandhi, each of whom served as Prime Minister of India. Pandit was sent to London, as India's most important diplomat, after serving as Nehru’s envoy to the Soviet Union, the USA and the United Nations. Her time in London offers insights into the wider context of changes in Indo–British relations. Her High-Commissionership was a microcosm of inter-governmental relations.

History

Karve Institute of Social Service is a school of social work established on 9th November 1963 in Commemoration of Social reformer Bharat Ratna Maharshi Dr. Dhondo Keshav Karve. The Institute imparts professional training in Social Work leading towards Master of Social Work degree of the University of Pune. The Institute also offers the M.Phil and Ph. D. programmes in Social Work of University of Pune. KINSS is into research and consultancy since 1970s, CSR Cell is created distinctly to cater the needs of corporate wish to initiate & partner in sustainable social development. KINSS believe in principal of Social Work "HELP PEOPLE TO HELP THEMSELVES", with value orientation. CSR cell will facilitate and guide NGOs and Corporates to take up need based sustainable projects for ensuring the sustainability, with good blend of social work and CSR.
